The RuPaul’s Drag Race franchise is set to debut in Canada later this year.
Drag Race Canada comes from the collaborative efforts of RuPaul’s Drag Race producers World of Wonder and Canada’s OUTtv as well as Crave streaming service.
The Canadian version of the show will follow its American counterpart, with queens competing in a series of challenges and competitions in order to be crowned “America’s Next Drag Superstar” at the end of the season. Along with the crown and coveted title is a lifetime supply of makeup and a $100,000 cash prize.
Production for the 10-episode series is set for this fall and casting has already begun. The panel and judges are set to be from Canada. For those wondering… RuPaul will not host the show. However, in a statement to press he said, “This new franchise has my whole-hearted blessing. Good luck… and don’t puck it up!” Crave and OUTtv will air past seasons of RuPaul’s Drag Race and RuPaul’s Drag Race All-Stars as well as future seasons of Drag Race UK and American Drag Race. The franchise also has spinoffs in the U.K. and Thailand.
